Explain India’s nuclear policy.


a nuclear program of India was framed under the guidance of Homi Bhabha.

Nehru was against the nuclear armament so he pleaded the nations for nuclear disarmament but nations like China, US, UK, USSR, France, who were five permanent members of UNSC and nuclear powers imposed Nonproliferation treaty for rest of the world, which India found discriminatory.


a. In 1974 India did its first nuclear test for peaceful use.


b. India did not sign the NPT and Comprehensive test ban treaty (CTBT).


c. In 1988 India conducted several nuclear tests, which was soon reciprocated by Pakistan


d. After the tests in 1988, India adopted No First Use of nuclear doctrine, as per it India would use nuclear weapons only for retaliation.
