Describe briefly the sources used for reconstructing the history of the Gupta rulers.

the sources used for reconstructing the history of the Gupta rulers are:

a. Coins are an important source used for reconstructing the history of the Gupta rulers. This is important because they include elements like scripts and images in which they are found. Many gold coins were issued during the reign of the Gupta rulers. These coins helped in a long-distance transaction which facilitated the expansion of trade and commerce.

b. Inscriptions were also used. They are writing engraved on hard surfaces like stone or metal.

c. Prashastis have drawn factual information about the Gupta rulers in the given manner. They were composed of kings in particular and patrons in general by poets. The court poet of Samudragupta, Harisena composed Prayag Prashashti. It was also known as the Allahabad pillar inscription. He described Samudraguupta as the most powerful king of the Gupta empire. He was considered as equally powerful to God and the protector of his poor subjects.
