Cards bearing numbers 1, 3, 5, ....., 35 are kept in a bag. A card is drawn at random from the bag. Find the probability of getting a card bearing (i) a prime number less than 15, (ii) a prime number divisible by 3 and 5.
Total numbers of elementary events are: 35
(i) Let E be the event of getting a prime number less than 15
The favourable numbers are: 3, 5, 7, 11, 13
Then, the numbers of favourable events = 5
∴ P (prime number less than 15) = P (E) = 5/35 = 1/7
(ii) Let E be the event of drawing a prime number divisible by 3 and 5
A number divisible by 3 and 5 is: 30
But 30 is not a prime number
∴ P (getting a prime number divisible by 3 and 5) = P (E) = 0
