What are the different ways in which glucose is oxidized to provide energy in various organisms?

Aerobic respiration and anaerobic respiration are two ways in which glucose is oxidized to release energy. In aerobic respiration, the oxygen inhaled breaks down the glucose of food into 36 ATP molecules by glycolysis, citric acid cycle, and electron transport system. Thus glucose is oxidized to release energy i.e. 36ATP mol.

In anaerobic respiration since no oxygen is present, the bacteria breakdowns the food and release only 2mol of ATP along with carbon dioxide and ethanol. Energy released is less in this process.
