In a photoelectric experiment, the collector plate is at 2.0 V with respect to the emitter plate made of coper (ϕ = 4.5 eV). The emitter is wavelength 200 nm. Find the minimum and maximum kinetic energy of the photoelectrons reaching the collector.
Given, stopping potential =2V
Work function Ф =4.5eV
Wavelength λ=200nm
∴ From Einstein’s photoelectric equation
∴ Minimum kinetic energy of photoelectron is 1.7eV
And maximum kinetic energy
[∵ Electric potential of 2V is applied for the electrons to
accelerate ∴ it is (2+1.7)]
