(10.1) – The Rhine waterway which flows through Germany and the Netherlands has been depicted in the given map.
(10.2) – This waterway includes the rivers Rhine and Rhur and flows through Germany and the Netherlands. Although it flows mostly through Germany because of its unique location it connects the industrial areas of Switzerland, Germany, France, Belgium and the Netherlands with the North Atlantic Sea Route.
(10.3) – The Rhine waterway is navigable for around 700 kms from Rotterdam, at its mouth in the Netherlands to Basel in Switzerland. Ocean going vessels can reach up to Cologne in Germany. Owing to its unique location, and the presence of rich coal fields in the area, the region is economically prosperous. The waterway is important for this prosperity as it is one of the most heavily used waterways in the world and allows the movement of huge tonnage along its stretches. It connects the industrial areas of Switzerland, Germany, France, Belgium and the Netherlands with the North Atlantic Sea Route and facilitates the exchange in cargo for more than 20,000 ocean-going ships and 2,00,000 inland vessels each year.
