The two main types of iron ore are haematite and magnetite.
● India has the largest Reserve of iron ore in Asia.
● 95% of the iron ore reserves are located in Orissa, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Goa, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, and Tamilnadu.
● In Orissa, iron ore is found in Sundargarh, Mayurbhanj, and Jhar.
● The important mines are Suleipat, Kiriburu, and Bunai.
● Jharkhand has some of the oldest iron ore mines.
● The most important ones are Normandie and Gua, located in the Singbhum districts.
● This belt extends to Durg, Dantiwella, and Bailadila. In Karnataka iron ore deposit in Ballari district, Baba Budan Hills, Kudremukh, Tumakuru and Chitradurga District.
● In Tamilnadu, mining regions are Salem and Nilgiris district.
● In Andhra Pradesh, the districts of Kurnool, Cuddapah, and Anantapur are important.
● In Telangana, the district of Warangal and Karimnagar.
● In Maharashtra the districts of Chandrapur and Ratnagiri.
