The oxidation takes place at the anode while the reduction takes place at the cathode.
By convention, while representing a galvanic cell, Anode is always placed to the left and cathode to the right.
Galvanic cell: Cu|Cu2+|| Cl—|Cl2, Pt
Anode- Oxidation half-cell: Cu(s) → Cu2+ + 2e-
Cathode- Reduction half-cell: Cl2(g)+ 2e-→ 2Cl-
Thus, Cu is anode as it is getting oxidised.
Cl2 is cathode as it is getting reduced.
