Decentralization means the transfer of authority from central level to state, districts, blocks, panchayat level. India was introduced to the concept of decentralization since colonization.

In 1957 it was the Balwant rai committee that recommended a three-tier government at the panchayat level, and hence Panchayati raj system was introduced.

a. Decentralized planning helps in better implementation of schemes at the village level.

b. It leads to faster development of roads, constructions, etc.

c. Decentralisation also helps in development of agriculture.
