Explain the Directive Principles related to the promotion of international peace and security.

Directive principles of state policy are contained in part IV of the Indian constitution from article 36 to 51.

Article 51 of the Indian constitution emphasizes upon promotion of international peace and security.

According to it :

a. The state would promote international peace and security: India did abide by the principle that it stated in the constitution. During the cold war era, the newly colonized states were either reconciling with the US or USSR but India supported neither and rather formulated a Nonaligned movement that promoted decolonization. India also raised a voice for nuclear disarmament.

b. The state would maintain just and honourable relations with nations: Panchseel or the Five principles of peaceful coexistence by Nehru and Zhou Enlai of China. India stood beside East Pakistan during the Bangladesh war and provided a home to millions of refugees.

c. Foster respect of international law and treaty obligation in dealings of organized people with one another: the Indus water treaty between India and Pakistan signed in 1960 through world bank mediation has worked well so far and India has abode by the rules.

d. Encourage settlement of international disputes by arbitration.
