Grand Alliance was a group of non-communist, non-congress opposition parties formed in 1970 elections against Indira Gandhi. The SSP, PSP, Bharatiya Jana Sangh, Swatantra Party and the Bharatiya Kranti Dal came together under this umbrella. The rulling party made an alliance with CPI. They did form a party but did not have a coherent political programme. Thus, they lose the elections.
