Evaluate the consequences of the emergency imposed in 1975.

The consequences of the emergency imposed in 1975 are:

a) Due to emergency, there was made arrests of several people and politicians on the ground that they may commit an offence. They were not even told the reason of being detained.

b) There was a practice known as press censorship that means newspapers were asked to get prior approval for all the material to be published.

c) Many political workers who were not arrested in the first wave went underground and started a protest against the government. Newspapers left the space blank for which the material went foe censorship. These letters were published in some newspapers as an open defiance.

d) Supreme Court over-ruling the High Court accepted the government’s plea which meant during Emergency the government could take away the citizen’s right of life and liberty.
