Describe the emergence of the coalition government in India.


a. Congress, the grand old party, started to lose its dominance in Indian politics following the Syndicate-Indira rivalry.


b. With the coming of new political parties at the national level and the ambitious regional parties with their own agenda in Indian politics, the era of multi-party system had begun.


c. It became very difficult for one party to get the majority share due to presence of numerous parties.


d. Thus, due to the absence of the required majority to form the government, parties started to partner with each other and ran the government in coalition system.
