What is meant by ‘Operation Iraqi Freedom’? Explain the consequences of this operation.

On March 19, 2003, the United States launched its invasions of Iraq under the code name of ‘Operation Iraqi Freedom’. Above forty other nations joined the United States-led coalition of the willing after the United Nations refused to provide its mandate to its invasion. The purpose of such invasion was preventing Iraq from developing Weapons of Mass Destruction. As there was no unearthing of evidence of such terrorism or weapons, it is speculated that that invasion was motivated by other aims.

The consequences of this operations were as follows:

(i) The United States was unable to pacify Iraq with even the government falling swiftly. One full-fledged operation was refuelled against the United States by Iraq.

(ii) The United States had lost above 3000 military personnel in the war. Since the time of the United States-led invasion, it was approximated that 50000 Iraqi civilians were killed.
