What is ‘Panchsheel’?

The five principles relating to peaceful coexistence are referred to as Panchsheel which created the bedrock of Indo-China relations. Their initial formal codification in treaty form occurred in the year of 1954 when an agreement between China as well as India was signed. Panchsheel acts as a guiding principle for this Indo-China relationship. Particularly, Prime Minister Nehru in addition to Chinese Premier Zhou Enlai adopted Panchsheel on April 29, 1954.
