What were the consequences of Indo-Pakistan conflict of 1971?
i) In the 1971 war India emerged victorious. India had rendered its support to Bangladesh under Indira Gandhi who was out Prime minister then. Due to this East Pakistan which is now known as Bangladesh was created as a result.
ii) The Kashmir issue however still remained undecided.
iii) Both the nations focussed on developing nuclear weapons.
iv) The war ended after both parties acceded to the Shimla Agreement for restoration of peace and order in their countries.
