Explain the consequences of the partition of India into India and Pakistan.
The partition of India was the partition of British India in 1947 which accompanied the creation of two independent states, India and Pakistan. The partition of India and Pakistan was one of the most disastrous events in the 20th century. The year 1947 was the year of one of the largest, most abrupt, unplanned and tragic transfer of population which human history has known.
Following are the consequences of the partition of India:
*Women were raped brutally, often paraded naked in the streets and then murdered. Their husbands were shot dead in front of them.
*Trains which were supposed to carry 40-50 people in one bogey carried more than 100.
*Partition affected people on both sides especially in the region of Punjab.
*Peoples were forced to abandon their homes and move across the border.
*Women were killed by their own family members to preserve family honour.
*All the intellectuals in various fields expressed their grief and anger.
*Minorities on both sides of border, fled their homes and secured temporary shelter in refugee camps.
