At the time of release of the food packet, only the horizontal velocity of the food packet exists which is equal to the velocity of the plane.
As seen from the plane, the food packet will go vertically downward.
As seen from the ground, the food packet will have parabola like path (similar to the projectile motion of the particle when it comes down from the highest point).
Talking about actual path of the food packet, there is no such actual path because there is no absolute frame of reference exists.
