Al Biruni faced many problems in understanding Indian social and Brahmanical practices such as the following:

a. Sanskrit was different from Arabic and Persian which made it difficult to translate the ideas and concepts from one language to another.

b. The difference in religious beliefs and practices.

c. The self-absorption and insularity of the local population.

d. It became a barrier in understanding the social practices.
