Subsidiary Alliance System was a system formulated by Lord Wellesley in the year of 1708. The provisions under this system were as follows:

1. It was the responsibility of the British to protect their ally from the external and internal threats to their power.


2. An armed contingent of the British was supposed to be set up in the territory of the ally.


3. All the resources needed to maintain this contingent was supposed to be provided by the ally.
