The ways in which urban centres transformed during the eighteenth century are listed below:

1. New regional capitals emerged in places like Hyderabad, Pune, Nagpur etc. where different people migrated from various areas to start their business or in search of jobs.

2. Creation of new urban settlements was done by the British with their town planning measures.

3. Many new trading centres were developed by the British like Masulipatnam, where all the major trade related activities were carried out.

4. New port cities like Calcutta and Madras were developed by the British to carry out their economic activities which later became the economic capitals of the country.
