How was Mahatma Gandhi perceived by the peasants?

India is a nation of villagers and vast numbers of Indians are indulged in farming. Gandhiji knew that during freedom movement, his focus was addressing the problems of farmers. He dressed as farmers and his indulgence in Indian politics initiated in Champaran when he succeeded in resolution of the problems of farmers. He stood in favour of farmers against excesses imposed by the British government such as oppressive tax collections and high taxes.

Furthermore, mystery also surrounded the personality of Gandhiji. Many believed he was also endowed with supernatural powers that could create sufferings related to natural calamities who spoke ill of him.


Thus, farmers perceived Gandhiji as their saviour and still many persons believed that he was bestowed with the power for performance of miracles.
