‘The relationship between India and Pakistan has been profoundly shaped by partition’. Explain some consequences of it.
The relation existing between Pakistan as well as India has been profoundly moulded by the legacy of partition that took place in 1947. The consequences of the partition were as follows:
(A) The partition occurred in the name of communities and religion due to which for the first time in history, people of the two nations moved across.
(B) People were rendered homeless, killed, lost their possessions and were separated from their loved ones during partition.
(C) It generate hatred, stereotypes, identities and memories that still persist to mould the history of persons on both sides of the border which have manifested themselves during communal clashes and inter-community conflicts, in turn, keeping alive the memories of past violence.
