The processes of aerobic respiration in mitochondria of a cell and anaerobic respiration in yeast and muscle with the help of word equations is shown as follows-


Aerobic Respiration in Mitochondria of a cell:


The final product of glycolysis which is pyruvate is transported from the cytoplasm into the mitochondria where the aerobic respiration takes place.


• There is a complete oxidation of pyruvate by removal of all the hydrogen atoms liberating three molecules of CO2.


• The electrons are passed to molecular O2 with synthesis of ATP.


Pyruvate, undergoes oxidative decarboxylation with the help of enzyme, pyruvic dehydrogenase.

Anaerobic respiration in yeast:


In yeast, there is an incomplete oxidation of glucose under anaerobic conditions where pyruvic acid is converted to CO2 and ethanol with help of enzymes pyruvic acid decarboxylase and alcohol dehydrogenase.


Anaerobic respiration in muscle:


In the muscle cells, pyruvic acid is reduced to lactic acid by lactate dehydrogenase.
