##### A small object is embedded in a glass sphere (μ = 1.5) of radius 5.0 cm at a distance 1.5 cm left to the center. Locate the image of the object as seen by an observer standing:(a) To the left of the sphere and(b) To the right of the sphere.

Radius of sphere= R =5.0 cm

Refractive index of sphere =

An object is embedded in a glass sphere at a distance of 1.5 cm from left to center.

(a) When the image is seen by the observer from the left of the sphere

The object distance u= -3.5 cm

Using lens equation:

Or, (inside the sphere)

Image will be formed, 5cm-3cm= 2cm left to center.

(b) When the image is seen by the observer from the right of the sphere

Object distance =u= - (5.0+1.5) =-6.5 cm

Using lens equation:

Therefore, the image will be formed 7.65-5=2.65 cm towards left from center.
