A spacecraft consumes more fuel in going from earth to the moon than it takes for a return trip. Comment on this statement.
To escape earth’s gravitational field, we need to accelerate in a direction opposite to the force of gravity, which ultimately consumes a large amount of fuel. However, while returning, the force of gravity acts in the direction of motion, which helps in aiding the motion rather than restricting it. Hence, less fuel is consumed.
