A wooden object floats in water kept in a beaker. The object is near a side of the beaker (figure 13-Q4). Let P1, P2, P3 be the pressures at the three points A, B and C of the bottom as shown in the figure.


This is a direct inference from the law that states that pressure is invariable in a horizontal plane or pressure at all points lying in the same horizontal surface is equal. The presence of the cube will not affect the pressure as it exerts the buoyant force on the water equal to the weight of the water displaced.
