(i) Write the functions of three segments of a transistor.
(ii) Draw the circuit diagram for studying the input and output characteristics of n-p-n transistor in common emitter configuration. Using the circuit, explain how input, output characteristics are obtained.
(i) The functions of the 3 segments of transistor are
Emitter: Emitter of the main charge carriers
Collector: Collects the main charge carriers
Base: Base is the main connector or the communicator between the emitter and collector.
(ii) The circuit diagram for studying the input and output characteristics of n-p-n transistor in common emitter configuration.
Finding the input and output characteristics using the diagram we get the input characteristics as
1. Input Characteristics: The difference between the base current and the base emitter voltage is prepared. The slope found by graph between the current and the emitter represents the dynamic resistance.
2. Output Characteristics: The difference between the Collector Current and the Collector Voltage is prepared. Keeping the base current constant, we get the value of the output dynamic resistance.
