⇒ a = b – 2 -------- (1)

Also, it becomes 1/2 if we only add 1 to the denominator.

⇒ 2a = b + 1 --------- (2)

Subtracting eq 1 from eq2

⇒ 2a – a = b + 1 – b + 2

⇒ a = 3

Thus, b = 5
