The external dimensions of a closed wooden box are 62 cm, 30 cm and 18 cm. If the box is made of 2-cm-thick wood, find the capacity of the box.
Given that,
External length = 62 cm
External width = 30 cm
External height = 18 cm
We know that,
Volume of cuboid = Length × Breadth × Height
Therefore,
External volume of the box = 62 × 30 × 18
= 33480 cm3
It is also given that,
Thickness of the wood = 2 cm
Therefore,
Internal length = 62 – (2 × 2) = 58 cm
Internal width = 30 – (2 × 2) = 26 cm
Internal height = 18 – (2 × 2) = 14 cm
As we know that,
Volume of cuboid = Length × Breadth × Height
Therefore,
Capacity of box = Internal volume of the box = 58 × 26 × 14
= 21112 cm3
