There is a need of variety of animals and plants in a forest due to following reason:

For the survival of animals and plants and maintenance of food chain.

Since insects eats grass and frog eats insects. These food chains are linked to each other. If one of the animal or plant dies, the other will be starved and thus whole food chain gets disturbed.
