What problem did the villagers in Hardas village face? What did they do to solve this problem?
The water problem in Hardas has become very acute. The hand pump water has gone well below the point up to which the ground has been drilled. Women have to go to the Suru River which is 3 kilometers away, to get water.
Piping water from the Suru and making an overhead tank in the village to increase the supply of water is a good way to solve the problem of acute water shortage. Deepening the hand pumps and cleaning the wells before rainy season is also a solution. But more permanent solution is required as the groundwater level seems to be going down every year. Watershed Development should also be used to conserve water.
