The cat and the author are very fond of each other. How has this been shown in the story? Where was the cat after the fire? Who brings it back and how?

The bond between the author and the cat is evident in the entire plot. The author had rescued it when it was just a small kitten. The cat understood that the author was responsible for the good life she was living. In the beginning of the plot the narrator says that she sat on the top of the author's papers striking his pen asking for entertainment. She moved in the house purring loudly.

When the fire broke out and the entire house burnt down, the author realised that she was nowhere to be found and broke down into tears.

One day the author and his friends were sitting on the curb, watching his house rebuild when a lady called from behind and said, “Does this cat belong to you?” The author was surprised to see the woman with his cat. He grabbed and hugged her and she purred happily in return. It was clear that the cat was so freaked out by the fire that she ran away. However, there was a collar in her neck which had the phone number of the author. Though their number could not be reached, the lady tried her best to trace the real owner and handed her to him.
