Anaerobic respiration occurs in cytoplasm i.e. in absence of oxygen glucose- a 6 carbon compound is converted to pyruvate – a 3 carbon compound. This pyruvate is converted to ethanol and carbon dioxide in absence of oxygen. This process is called fermentation.
