Three 2 Ω resistors, A, B, and C, are connected as shown below. Each of them dissipates and can stand a maximum power of 18 W without melting. Find the maximum current that can flow through the three resistors.

Power dissipation of a resistor with resistance R and I current flowing through it, is given by

P = I2R


So, 18 = I2×2


That implies, I = = 3 A


Hence, a maximum of 3A can flow through the first resistor so that 1.5A can flow through the other two resistors.
