The area of a right – angled triangle is 96 sq metres. If the base is three times the altitude, find the base.
Let the altitude of the triangle be x m
The base will be 3x m
Area of triangle = 1/2. Base. altitude
1/2.3x.x = 96
x2 = 64
x = 8 or – 8 taking square root
Value of x cannot be negative
Thus the altitude of the triangle be 8 m
The base will be 3.8 = 24m
