In the given figure, OABC is a square of side 7 cm. If COPB is a quadrant of a circle wit centre C find the area of the shaded region.

Given:

Side of square = 7 cm

Radius of the quadrant = 7 cm

Area of square = side × side

= 7 × 7 = 49 cm2

Area of circle = πr2

Area of a quadrant = πr2

= × × 7 × 7

= = 38.5 cm2

Thus, the area of shaded region = Area of square – Area of quadrant

= 49 – 38.5 = 10.5 cm2

Hence, the area of the shaded region is 10.5 cm2.
