In the given figure, OABC is a square of side 7 cm. If COPB is a quadrant of a circle wit centre C find the area of the shaded region.
Given:
Side of square = 7 cm
Radius of the quadrant = 7 cm
Area of square = side × side
= 7 × 7 = 49 cm2
∵ Area of circle = πr2
∴ Area of a quadrant = πr2
= ×
× 7 × 7
= = 38.5 cm2
Thus, the area of shaded region = Area of square – Area of quadrant
= 49 – 38.5 = 10.5 cm2
Hence, the area of the shaded region is 10.5 cm2.
