The raw materials used by an organism are mostly food and oxygen. Autotrophic organisms, like plants, they use carbon dioxide, water and minerals in presence of sunlight and chlorophyll to make their own food; releasing oxygen into the atmosphere as a by-product. Heterotrophic organisms obtain food from plants for energy and also oxygen to perform respiration.
