Plants use water, minerals and carbon dioxide as raw materials in the presence of sunlight and chlorophyll to perform photosynthesis. They obtain water and minerals from the soil and carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. Chlorophyll is already present in green plants and only 1% sunlight is absorbed from the total of all the sun light that falls on plants.
