A bus starting from rest moves with a uniform acceleration of 0.1 ms-2 for 2 minutes. Find:

(a) The speed acquired.

(b) The distance travelled.

(a) The speed acquired:

Given,

Initial speed, u = 0 (As it starts from rest)

Final speed, v =?

Acceleration, a = 0.1 m/s2

Time, t = 2 minutes

= 2 × 60 seconds

= 120 s

Final velocity, v = 0 + 0.1 × 120

= 12 m/s

Therefore, the speed acquired by the bus is 12 m/s

(b) The distance travelled:

We know that,

Distance travelled, s = ut +at2

= 0 × 120 + × 0.1 × (120)2

= 0 + × 0.1 × 14400

= 720 m

Therefore, the distance travelled by the bus is 720 metres
