Fossil fuels are carbonaceous compounds which when burning in air releases carbon dioxide gas, the main gas which causes global warming. This gas traps heat rays of the sun inside the surface of the earth and thus increases the temperature. This is called Greenhouse effect and consequence of this effect is global warming. The temperature of the earth will rise gradually.
