Give two reasons to justify:

(a) Water at room temperature is a liquid.

(b) An iron almirah is a solid at room temperature.

(a) The freezing point of water is 00C and the boiling point of water is 1000C. At room temperature the particles of water do not have enough energy to break free from the forces of attraction of each other. Hence, water remains as a liquid. Similarly, particles of water do not come close to each to change into liquid form.

(b) An iron almirah is a solid at room temperature because its melting point is very high. At room temperature, the particles of iron do not have enough energy to break free from the forces of attraction of each other.
