Why is ice at 273 K more effective in cooling than water at the same temperature?

273 K or 0°C is the melting point of ice or freezing point of water. The latent heat of melting of ice or is 334 Kj per kilogram. Now, ice at 273 K is more effective in cooling a substance than water at the same temperature. In order to overcome the fusion to become water, ice at 273 K will absorb heat energy or the latent heat from the medium. Hence, the cooling effect of ice will be more than water at the same temperature because water does not absorb this extra heat from the medium.
