A 9 Ω resistance is cut into three equal parts and connected in parallel. Find the equivalent resistance of the combination.

When the wire is cut into three equal parts the length of each part will be l/3.

And resistance is directly proportional to the length.


The resistance of each part will be 9/3 = 3.


Now we have three resistors each of 3Ω connected parallel as shown in figure below.



By formula for resistors in parallel.




Req = 1 Ω.


Hence the equivalent resistance of the combination is 1
