Both Mg and Ca belong to the same group (group II) and are capable of losing electrons which is responsible for their reactivity. Mg lies above Ca in Group II. As we move down a group, the effective nuclear charge on valence shell electrons decreases due to which losing electrons become easier. Thus Ca is more reactive than Mg.
