What is water harvesting? Write any two advantages of it.

● Water is the most precious natural resource. Most of us take water for granted.

● We are now increasingly becoming aware of the importance of water to our survival and its limited supply.

● Now it comes very essentially to save water by harvesting it.

Water harvesting means capturing rain water, where it falls and capture the runoff from, catchment and streams etc.

Generally, water harvesting is direct rainwater collection.

This collected water could be stored for later use and recharged into the ground water again.

Rain is primary water source lakes, ground water and rivers are the secondary water source.

The two advantages of water harvesting:

(a) Overexploitation of water resources will be reduced.

(b) Helps to recharge the ground water to increase the water table and provides moisture for vegetation over a wide area.
