Evaporation is the phenomenon of change of a liquid into vapour phase at temperatures below its boiling point. A small fraction of the particles present in the liquid surface having higher kinetic energy breaks away from the force of attraction between other liquid particles to become vapour. Since surface particles contribute to evaporation, evaporation is a surface phenomenon.
