J.J.Thomson proposed the first model of the atom to be similar to that of a Christmas pudding. On the basis of Thomson’s model of an atom, an atom consists of an electrically positively charged sphere in which negative charges are embedded. The magnitude of the positive and negative charges are equal and hence, the atom as a whole is electrically neutral.
