Give reason for the following :

The potential energy of a freely falling object decreases progressively. Does this violate the law of conservation of energy ? Why?

According to law of conservation of energy, Energy can neither be created nor be destroyed. It can only be transformed from one form to another. Total energy before and after transformation remains same.

So, if the potential energy of a freely falling object decreases progressively then it is transformed into an equal amount of kinetic energy and the sum of both energies remains constant all the time.
