N2 + 3H2 2NH3 + Heat

What can be concluded from the above reaction?

The reaction is as follows:

N2 + 3H2 2NH3 + Heat

This reaction is used in industry for the preparation of ammonia and the process is called as Haber – Bosch Process. The reaction is a highly exothermic reaction that is heat is generated when hydrogen and nitrogen react to form ammonia.

Also the reaction should be carried out under the presence of Iron as catalyst and Molybdenum as the promoter at a controlled temperature of 400 to 500° C.

The reaction is a reversible one. So the reaction conditions has to be maintained to obtain ammonia at an optimum rate.
